Five Air Cadets from 209 (West Bridgford) recently travelled to RAF Cranwell where they each got a flight in a two seat Grob Tutor aircraft.  After being briefed and kitted out in a flying suit and parachute they were strapped in and taken for a thirty minute flight.

Cadet Bethany Griffiths in a Grob Tutor.

The flight began with the pilot explaining all the aircrafts instruments and controls and then demonstrating basic manoeuvres.  The purpose of Air Experience Flying is to give the Cadets as much hands on experience as possible and so the pilot gives the Cadet control of the aircraft and talks them through each manoeuvre.  Once that is achieved the pilot takes back control and demonstrates the Tutor’s aerobatic performance.

Corporals Emily Tring, Serena Linley and Ryan Young suited and booted.

Among the Cadets who flew was Cadet Bethany Griffiths (14) who experienced her first flight.  She said “it was amazing.  We did aerobatics and the loop the loop and barrel roll were incredible.”
