The thought of a committee can fill one with dread, let alone actually being on one! But we do need one. No Committee = No funds for squadron.
There is no operational role in the Squadron which is commanded and administered by the Commanding Officer.
The main role of the committee is primarily focused around fund-raising for the Squadron and organizing social events. It comprises of parents and friends of the squadron.
The 209 Squadron committee meets approximately once every two months for a couple of hours one evening, usually at the squadron in Wilford or at a more informal venue (pub). More frequent if organising an event.
The committee meets to their own agenda and time under direction of a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The meetings have a set Agenda organized by the Chair person and discussions take place. All members agree subsequent actions.
Time is devoted to fund-raising for the Squadron which as a part of the Air Training Corps (ATC), itself part of the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO), is a registered charity.
There are a range of activities to assist in fund raising and raising the profile of the squadron. Some examples previously have been bag-packing events,
West Bridgford Lark in the Park, Riverside festival, street collecting and raffles. We are always looking for and welcome new ideas.
Fund raising is vital to the squadron to support some activities, equipment, travel costs and subsidise social events for the Air cadets.
We are always interested to hear from potential new members of the Air Training Corps (ATC) Civilian Committee members for the 209 ATC. Please contact through the squadron or through the website.
Further general information about the role of the Air Training Corps (ATC) Civilian Committee can be found on the Air Cadets web site
